Overview

A 72,000 m² open-air retail district in central Leeds, anchored by a 3,716 m² undulating glass canopy that arches up to 30.5 m above street level. Designed by Chapman Taylor and engineered as a gridshell of 1,902 panels, the centre opened on 21 March 2013, drew 130,000 visitors on its opening day, and reached 23 million in its first year.

Parametric generation of the grid-shell roof structure and its preparation for production, commissioned by Seele Austria.

Outcome

Programmed methods produced structural details automatically across all of the Trinity Leeds grid-shell roofs — model assembly and detailing handled in code rather than by hand.
