Baku GMP Architekten 2012

Baku Crystal Hall

Overview

A 25,000-seat arena built on a Caspian peninsula in just eight months to host Eurovision 2012. GMP Architekten’s design wraps a lightweight steel structure in a faceted membrane skin of 180 panels carrying more than 80,000 integrated LEDs, programmed to read as cut crystal at night. The building measures roughly 206 m by 168 m, stands 25 m tall, and was assembled from three independent systems: façade, modular stadium, and interior roof.

Scope

Automated generation of the venue’s hundreds of unique steel elements and their preparation for production.

Outcome

A Rhino plug-in commissioned by Seele Austria turned simple point inputs into manufacturing-ready steel details, removing manual detailing across the irregular geometry of the arena.

Capabilities Applied

  • Custom Rhino plug-in development
  • Rule-based steel-detail generation
  • Point-input to manufacturing-ready geometry
  • Production-prep automation
