DTFLR

Overview

DTFLR — Dietrich Untertrifaller — is an internationally operating architecture firm rooted in Bregenz and Vienna, with offices across Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, and Serbia and a team of more than 170. Founded in 1994, the practice helped pioneer modern timber construction and continues to specialise in highly sustainable, regional-material buildings. Recent Vienna projects — B.R.I.O. Neues Landgut, the WohnBAUM ‘Magic Cube’, the Waldorf School Mauer — lean on timber and recycled concrete to cut grey energy and embodied carbon, in some cases by 20% or more versus a conventional reinforced-concrete equivalent. The firm earned ClimatePartner certification in late 2024.

Scope

Dr. Milos Dimcic, OnceMore’s CEO, supports Dietrich Untertrifaller personally on BIM and reuse-and-recycle software solutions — the collaboration runs through him, not through OnceMore as a service provider. The work centres on custom Rhino and Revit plug-ins — for parsing existing models, automated geometry generation, urban-design and analysis tooling, and internal life-cycle assessment — aimed at sharpening 3D precision and preparing the studio for future fabrication. Across all of it, the focus is sustainability: making it faster and more reliable to design with timber, account for embodied carbon, and bring material reuse into the project from its earliest phases.

Outcome

Ongoing. As the plug-in suite grows, more of DTFLR’s timber- and reuse-led workflows shift from manual modelling into automated tooling — tightening the loop between architectural intent, life-cycle accounting, and the precision needed for fabrication.

Capabilities Applied

  • Custom Rhino and Revit plug-in development
  • BIM model parsing and automated geometry generation
  • Urban-design and analysis tooling
  • Life-cycle assessment and material-reuse pipelines
